PR Newswire
SHANGHAI, Oct. 14, 2026
SHANGHAI, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Prof. Gang Shen of Taikang ByBo Dental has been named among the World’s Top 2% Scientists for the fourth consecutive year, according to the ninth edition of the database jointly released by Stanford University and Elsevier.
Prof. Shen has been recognised on the Single-Year Scientific Impact list in 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026, and on the Career-Long Scientific Impact list in both 2025 and 2026. The recognition highlights both his sustained research outputs in recent years and his longer-term academic influence of his work in orthodontics.

The 2026 edition is based on Scopus data and evaluates scientific impact using a composite set of citation indicators, including total citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted hm-index and citation performance by authorship position. The database covers 20 scientific fields and 174 subfields and separately assesses career-long and single-year scientific impact based on a Scopus data snapshot dated August 1, 2026.
For more than three decades, Prof. Shen and his team have focused on mandibular repositioning, temporomandibular joint remodeling and the diagnosis and treatment of complex dentofacial deformities.
“Being included in the career-long list is meaningful because it reflects decades of focused work in orthodontics,” Prof. Shen said. “For our team, it is recognition of a long-term commitment to the research of mandibular repositioning and continued clinical and scientific innovation.”
Since 2005, Prof. Shen and his team have conducted research and clinical application on adult malocclusions characterized by deep overbite, deep overjet and a deep curve of Spee, as well as mandibular repositioning and complex dentofacial deformities.
Their research has been published in journals including the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, the Journal of Dental Research and the Journal of Aligner Orthodontics. Representative publications include “Severe Class II Division 1 malocclusion in an adolescent patient, treated with a novel sagittal-guidance Twin-block appliance,” “The Biology of TMJ Growth Modification: a Review” and “Pathological Mandibular Retrusion: Causality and Orthodontic Intervention.”
To date, Prof. Shen has published more than 100 academic papers in dental journals in China and internationally, including more than 50 SCI-indexed articles in international journals.
Advancing Research in Mandibular Repositioning
Prof. Shen’s research interests include complex malocclusions involving convex, concave and asymmetric facial profiles, as well as the relationship between mandibular position, the temporomandibular joint and orthodontic diagnosis and treatment.
In 2019, Prof. Shen entered into a strategic collaboration with Smartee Denti-Technology focused on research and clinical translation in mandibular repositioning. The collaboration has contributed to the development and clinical application of the Smartee GS technology system.
Research under the collaboration spans diagnostic classification, biological mechanisms, appliance development, treatment planning and outcome evaluation, with findings shared through scientific publications, clinical studies and professional education.
“The career-long recognition belongs to more than 30 years of work by our team in mandibular repositioning,” Prof. Shen said. “Being named to the single-year list for four consecutive years also reflects the continued research and innovation that have come from our collaboration with Smartee. I believe orthodontics, particularly mandibular repositioning, will continue to generate new research and attract broader attention within dentistry.”
Prof. Shen’s latest inclusion adds to a growing body of research examining mandibular position, temporomandibular joint adaptation and the management of complex malocclusions, while continuing to expand the scientific discussion around mandibular repositioning in contemporary orthodontic practice.
